This may come as a pleasant surprise to country’s students community who have long been enquiring if they could get upgraded version of Aakash which is UbiSlate 7 at the same price or higher price. Govt. of India has decided to provide Aakash-2 or UbiSlate 7 tablet at the same price to students. For your information, Aakash-2 aka UbiSlate 7 is the higher upgraded version of the basic Aakash tablet and is expected to be 3 times faster than the basic version. UbiSlate 7 is expected to have even better battery life as well. However, the approval process will involve taking feedback from almost 600+ students from IIT and engineering colleges. This is only to keep a check on quality of the new Aakash as lots of complaints have been received for the first version of Aakash’s performance specially the battery life.
BTW, if you have booked Aakash/Ubislate tablet and want to enquire about the status, get in touch with company via Aakash Email support and toll free numbers.
Company DataWind has promised to fix all the issues in the new Aakash and will provide 70000 units of new improved Aakash to Govt. of India. Earlier, HRD ministry had shown reluctance over extending the letter of credit to the company mostly because of the complaints received for the basic Aakash as well as violation of the contract by the company. Govt. of India has alleged that company DataWind has been selling Aakash in the open market without first providing the units to Govt. as per contract. This had led to talks about cancelling all the future orders for Aakash.
Not interested to but, get Aakash on rent from college.
Aakash -2 /UbiSlate 7 to be made available not before April 2012
Mr. Kapil Sibal has officially announced that newer improved upgraded version Aakash-II will be made available only from April 2012. This delay is because of the amount of complaints received regarding the battery life and other non-satisfactorily performance related things in first basic version of Aakash. Based on the detailed feedback received for Aakash tablet, the fixes and resolutions is expected to come with Aakash-2.
I think, it makes perfect sense to wait for some more time rather than to live with a defective product all through the life and keep cribbing about the same.
