Now, with effect from 1st of this month, you longer need to carry the physical print out of the train’s e-ticket, only IRCTC sent SMS is enough. This move by Indian Railways Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will make it really convenient for the Indian trains commuters. Earlier, if you were booking a Indian rail /train ticket online via IRCTC, you needed to either carry the printout of the ticket or show the Virtual Reservation Message (VRM) on smartphone, laptop, palmtop etc. while travelling. But with this new updated, now you don’t even require a smart phone to show the VRM. Only a normal SMS sent by IRCTC on successfully completion of train ticket booking is valid enough for the journey.
Must Have Valid Photo-ID Proof along with IRCTC Sent SMS
This IRCTC sent SMS will act at par with Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS). Passenger will have to show the authorised IRCTC sent SMS along with a valid photo-id in original to make the journey. The SMS contains all the necessary details like PNR, train number, date of journey, class, name and number of passengers, coach and seat number and fare paid and if feasible, will also accommodate the names of all the passengers booked on the e-ticket (if not all then the maximum number of passengers).
Pay Penalty of Rs. 50 Only in Case of IRCTC SMS Unavailable (Mobile Loss, Discharged)
What is even more passenger friendly is the fact that you don’t have to worry much even if you are unable to show the SMS due to reasons like loss and/or battery discharged mobile/laptop etc. In such cases, you will have to pay a penalty of Rs. 50 per ticket besides producing the valid photo-id proof.
