World’s cheapest computer named Aakash has been launched just couple of minutes back and the first thing which every one was curiously waiting for is the first look of the device. So far we didn’t have many photos and images available for the Aakash. But now since it has been officially launched,we have some images of Aakash available which have been released by NDTV. Update:

New Version Aakash-2 to be launched in February 2012 at $49 or Rs. 2275

Looking at the great intial response to Aakash tablet, Govt. of India (HRD Ministry and Kapil Sibal) has decided to launch the new version with the name Aakash-2 some time in January-February 2012. Aakash-2 is expected to be available at $49 or Rs. 2275 which is effectively the same as the initial launch price. it is noticeable that IIT Rajasthan has worked on the improvements in Aakash-1 which will be rolled out as a part of Aakash-2 in Feb 2012. These improvements are based on feedback from almost 500+ users.

Features and Specs Improvements in Aakash-2

The new Aakash-2 tablet will have much speedier processor of 800 MHz as compared to 366 MHz processor in Aakash-1. Apart from speed, following are other improvements in Aakash-2;

  • Overcome of problem of over heating quickly.
  • Frequent system freeze problem removed.
  • Improved sound quality.
  • Support for more media formats.
  • Ability to install free online software.
  • Enabled downloading of YouTube Videos.
  • RAM will be upgraded to 1 GB from 256 MB in Aakash-1.
  • Built-in camera in Aakash-2.
  • Front online video chatting.

    Really India’s Great effort in IT sector and i am thankful to both Indian Govt as well the Company who manufactured it and the gr8 engineers and scientists who proved to whole world that our R & D is stronger than other counties. I wish to purchase it first .

  6. Sir, I have three issues who studying in 10th, 7th & 5th classes. I want to buy this magic computer as soon as possible. Please tell me from where I can purchase this magic computer for my children as I am very poor because I cannot afford the costly computer or Laptop at present.

      Many of you have been asking about availability of Aakash tablet in the open market and the machanisn to buy the same. Let me inform for the benefit of everyone that Aakash tablet is not yet available in the open/retail market. It is expected to be available from Nov’2011 tentatively. However, for students – they need to get in touch with their school/college/university to find about the availability of Aakash student model.As per HRD ministry, students will be getting this tablet via proper channel of schools/colleges only.
      We are also in close touch with the manufacturing company to find out about the availability as well as mechanism to buy Aakash tablet. As soon as some official information on the same become available, we will be sharing the same via a post on our blog/ from our facebook page /via twitter. Hence, all those who are interested and keen to buy Aakash, can subscribe to our RSS feed, like and join our facebook page and follow us on twitter so as not to miss the information and be the early ones to grab one aakash for yourself.
